CDNST Interactive Map

The CDT Interactive Map is a great resource and tool to help plan your next great CDT adventure. Simply zoom into the area of interest (type in the location name) and “virtually” explore the CDT.

View an up close and personal virtual Trail experience on your computer or mobile!


  • Two different platforms, your choice.
    • Open the app, search Gallery for CDT. Click on the map icon to open it. The opened map will be the same as our main interactive map on our website. Turn your GPS on to see where you are on the map. Have patience while the map loads, it may take a while.
  • Taking mobile maps offline with ArcGIS Collector…..more information coming soon

Currently displayed in the interactive map are the following:

  • Current Trail line (tread on the ground) location as of 2012
  • Registration Locations
  • Limited number of Trail-Heads
  • Current Fire Locations
  • Current Weather (wind speed/direction)
  • Gateway Communities and Trail Towns
  • Past Project Locations
  • Topographic map background
  • Aerial photography map background

Bookmarks! in the map

To access the bookmarks, click on the link just under the above map called View Larger Map.
There are predefined bookmarks currently in the map. Take a look at the image below to find where they are stored.
Also, take a look at the image caption below to learn how to search for your favorite location within the map.

Selecting and Zooming into the Map

There are quite a few things in the map that won’t easily be selected unless you zoom into them. The 2013 Project Location points are an example. In order to see a specific project location point and its information, it is best to zoom into that  point first and then click on that particular point to view the popup information.  See the caption below on how to select and zoom into the map.

In order to easily select and zoom into the map, hold down the 'shift' key while creating a box around the area you would like to zoom into.

    • A single compressed file will download
    • Uncompress the downloaded file
    • The compressed folder contains each state as a kmz file as well as a single road file that spans multiple states

Data Accuracy/Liability

CDTC is approved to use the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDNST) “…National…” description and Word Mark through 2014 –  This approval only applies to trail and primitive road sections of the travel route as mapped through cooperative agreements.  Improved gravel or surfaced roads are not official sections of the CDNST travel route.  Information contained online, in map books or other publications, is dynamic and may change over time. Landownership is not depicted and access through non-Federal areas is only allowed at the discretion or by agreement with the landowner. CDTC and the U.S. Forest Service shall not be responsible for errors or omissions in the map information and shall not be obligated to provide updates, additions, or corrections to the map information in the future. CDTC and the U.S. Forest Service give no warranty, expressed or implied, as to the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of the information. CDTC and the U.S. Forest Service shall not be held liable for improper or incorrect use of the data described and/or contained herein.
